WELCOME TO OUR WORLD
Chila Bags was created in 2013 after a trip to La Guajira, Northern
Colombia. While driving towards El Cabo de la Vela, a paradise-like place,
we fell in love not only with the place, but also with the beautiful bags handmade by the women of the Wayuu tribe. For this reason, we decided to start this project to promote this beautiful art on the international stages.
These bags are made as part of the Wayuu women's culture and traditions;
the skills are passed down from generation to generation.
Each bag is one of a kind, takes 10-15 days to be made.
All our bags are handmade by female artisans. We collaborate directly with these women to support this traditional and beautiful art and to spread it around the world. We pay these women above market rate to ensure fair work conditions and to ensure these women are able to earn a living from their art. The popularity of these bags is a great thing for these women who sustain their
villages’ economy by hand making these pieces and selling them. They
are a labor of love.
Chila Bags' colorful patterns and long straps make them perfect for all
seasons; for your travels around the world, for a day at the beach, a road trip with a friend, a BBQ just down the block, picnic or any other summer event, it’s an ultimate all-season basic.
As they have become so popular, more and more people around the world are taking them to new destinations.
Giving back has never looked so CHIC!
